About Us


The Environmental Modeling Core (NUMA) brings together the efforts of three UFRJ laboratories:

Laboratory of Modeling of Marine and Atmospheric Processes (LAMMA), located in the Department of Meteorology, the Laboratory of Remote Sensing by Radar applied to the Petroleum Industry (LabSAR), located in COPPE and the Laboratory of Computational Methods in Engineering (LAMCE) also located in COPPE.

NUMA has extensive experience and training in the area of computational modeling of Geophysical fluids (atmosphere and ocean). For some years now, oceanic and atmospheric computational models have been implemented and executed on different computational platforms within the framework of academic and governmental inter institutional projects, in projects with companies associated with the Oil Industry and in academic and professional training with the development of master's dissertations and doctoral theses. Such models are applied to the representation of oceanic and atmospheric flows at different spatial and temporal scales, ranging from the global to the regional scale for climate studies and operational applications.

In addition to the research area described, NUMA has been developing research lines in the areas of oil dispersion modeling at sea, remote sensing and analysis of oceanographic and meteorological data.

NUMA has established partnerships with research institutions and private meteorological and oceanographic consulting companies incubated at UFRJ and external, with which research and development work in the environmental area is developed. Below are listed our partners.
